State of Illinois Athletic Association Structure Comparison and Summary

State of Illinois Athletic Association Structure Comparison and Summary

State of Illinois Athletic Association Structure Comparison and Summary

Submit Assignment: Final Project
For your Final Paper, you will perform a case study on a state athletic association, not including Nebraska, New York, or Oregon. Your Final Paper should be 15–20 pages in length plus the annotated bibliography, double-spaced, with proper citation in APA format. Items to be addressed:
1. Identify the state association and provide the mission statement of the organization in the opening paragraph.
2. Summarize the structure of the state association including membership, leadership, and organization.
3. Compare the structure of the state association similar to Nebraska, Oregon, or New York.
4. Has the state association you have chosen been involved in litigation? If so, describe the facts of the most recent case you identified, the claims raised, and the outcome of the case.
5. Utilize the rules of your state association and any applicable cases to analyze the following hypothetical situation:
You have recently been hired as an athletic director at a high school that has had the same athletic director for the last 45 years. Your school is one of the preeminent athletic programs in the state for men’s and woman’s basketball. Prior to your arrival at the school, a 6’10″ student transferred to your school from the other side of the state, and he shows promise to be a fantastic center for your men’s basketball program. His parents are still in the process of moving their family business to your town and your young assistant basketball coach has offered to let the student live in his home for the first couple weeks of the school year until his parents get situated.
As the school year gets started, you begin to get concerned about your new star center’s performance in the classroom as he is routinely missing many of his morning classes. You approach the assistant basketball coach about the issue and he tells you that he thinks the student may be smoking marijuana and cutting class, but not to worry because his first couple of classes in the day are really easy and the teachers are big fans of the school’s basketball program. You express concern to the assistant coach, but he tells you not to worry, the old athletic director and the teachers had an “understanding” when it came to situations like this.
You return to your office, reeling from everything you have just learned and you see that you have two voicemails on your phone. The first is from your head basketball coach; he has just informed you that another player dove for a ball in practice and his head had damaged the scorer’s table equipment so badly that you will need to order a replacement soon. In the background you hear the player asking the coach, “Where am I coach?” With the coach responding back, “Walk it off Matt. Go sit down and get some fluids in you before we start our scrimmage.”
The second voicemail you receive is from one of the leaders of your state athletic association welcoming you to your new job and seeing if the association can provide you with any helpful resources.
6. In analyzing the hypothetical above please:
Identify and cite each rule from your state association that you believe applies.
Thoroughly explain why you believe the rule applies.
If you need to know more information before determining whether the rule applies, state what information you need to know.
Describe in detail how you would respond to each potential rules violation.
Support your statements with evidence from the required studies and your research. APA style
