For your final informal report for this class, I want you to consider Convenience Store Woman and the author’s view of business in society. Although written for an Asian audience, much of what Murata discusses are themes and issues all societies grapple with and feelings employees struggle against—those feelings of not mattering in the corporate structure. For this paper, your requirements are: Consider a profession where society and/or owners appear to undervalue or devalue its employees. You may consider a wide range of things, including but not limited to: Salary Time off Glass door issues Gender inequality Corporate structure Once you have selected a profession and discussed its placement within our society, then delve into why you believe this is the case and what can be done to change industry or society’s perception. You are, in essence, creating a version of a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis for this profession with the intent of changing our collective minds. In terms of requirements, your informal business report should contain the following in order to be considered a professional document and receive full credit before content is addressed: 5 full-pages, single spaced with 1” margins all the way around with the exception of page 1, that can be as little as .5 to accommodate your format Include a separate Works Cited or References Page depending on MLA or APA format guidelines—the choice is yours Be in letter or memo format with appropriate structure that we have discussed all quarter long Incorporate two outside sources—these sources should augment your position not do your arguing for you Be written in no larger than 12-point font using Times New Roman or Ariel Be thoughtful and engaging to your reader Have an intro., body, conclusion and recommendations section—all the body headers are up to the writer’s discretion Failure to meet these requirements, will result in a full grade reduction before content is considered. Your papers are due on 6.1 via Blackboard and will be run through plagiarism software so be sure to cite things correctly. Additionally, your oral presentations are based on the topic you select so be sure you opt for something you are passionate about. You need not have your paper completed on the date of your oral presentation, but you must have enough information to discuss the topic in a thoughtful and engaging way. Finally, there may only be one profession per class so first come, first served. I don’t want to listen to 20 presentations on teachers, for example!
