Part 1 – Hypothesis Selection (5 points)
The authors are testing multiple hypotheses, as indicated on page 596-597. Pick 1 of these hypothesis to focus on.

Identify the hypothesis as outlined by the authors. I want the direct quote where they state the precise hypothesis they are addressing
Now, explain the hypothesis in your own words given your understanding of the article and a pick of context as to why this hypothesis is significant to test. Direct quotes should not appear in this part of your response.

Part 2 – Data Collection, Analyze, and Connections* (15points)
Step A: Within the author’s section titled Data and Analyses (begins on page 597), identify and discuss the following:

At least 1 if not 2 forms of qualitative data collected by the researchers to test the hypothesis you are focusing on from Part 1 and the resulting analyses (e.g. what did they find/what are the results).
At least 2 forms of quantitative data collected by the researchers to test the hypothesis you are focusing on from Part 1 and the resulting analyses (e.g. what did they find/what are the results).

[Direct quotes are not permitted in Step A. Clearly, you will be reporting on statistical results, but you will need to present them in this submission as embedded in your own words. For example, rather than directly quoting the author’s results on impact of the fathers you can say “˜Mattison and colleagues (2014, page 599) found that when fathers co-resided with their children, these children had a 2.03 times odds of continuing their education.’ This way you are letting me know what page you are on while also explaining the results related to the testing of the hypothesis in your own words.]
Step B: Connections
In Step A you identified the qualitative & quantitative data & results, now you will move a step further to your own analysis and draw connections between the results you decided to focus on for this hypothesis & the wider content of the article by Mattison and colleagues (2014).
There are many ways to achieve Step B of the worksheet. It will vary depending on the hypothesis you selected in Part 1 and the data & results you focused on in Step A. However, whatever approach you decide upon direct quotes are not allowed in Step B. Draw connections in your own words either through strong paraphrasing or your own analysis of the data analysis based on your understanding of the hypothesis being tested and our wider discussion on matrilineal kin.
Be anthropologically focused; avoid ethnocentrism or any comparison that is not mentioned by Mattison and colleagues (2014) as it pertains to the hypothesis. Keep the Mosuo as your main focus and the hypothesis you picked to focus on.
*NOTE: Steps A and B of Part 2 can be combined into a well-organized response or visual diagram. Just make sure to touch on all of the requirements.
