WELCOME TO GENERAL SCIENCE IB
Understanding Physics
This course introduces students to the scientific field of
Physics. The assignments will cover basic principles of
motion, energy, and light. Students will study matter and
energy which are governed by the same principles
throughout the universe. This course will allow students
to differentiate between the different physical properties
and see how they interact.

Focus
Students will relate the forces that act upon an object
and the resulting motion it undergoes. An objects
acceleration, mass, and force are interconnected. These
can be calculated from one another.
Students will understand the impact of mass and
distance on the force of gravity between two
objects. They will use their understanding of
gravitational force to predict the motion of objects in the
solar system.
Students will understand that energy cannot be created
nor destroyed but can change form. Using examples
students will explore the relationship between potential
and kinetic energy.
Students will understand that energy cannot be created
nor destroyed but can change form. They will explore
how unstable systems evolve towards more stable states
and examine the relationship between mechanical
energy and thermal energy.
Students will understand how electromagnetic waves
can transmit information. They will compare the
benefits and uses of different types of electromagnetic
radiation.
