Child Abuse and Low Educational Level Case

Child Abuse and Low Educational Level Case

Child Abuse and Low Educational Level Case

I chose the child abuse case. This case study describes a community health nurse’s observations while doing a home visit on a 15 year old pregnant girl with Medicaid. Marissa has several risk factors that place her in a vulnerable group. Marissa’s mom is a single parent to six children who is most likely living in inadequate, for the their needs, government housing. According to Nies teenagers that become pregnant are more likely to drop out of high school. This may have happened with Marissa’s mom. Low educational level lead to increased poverty and an endless cycle (Buck, 2014). The nurse observes, through auditory cues that a young child may be being abused by the mother.
The Mya Women’s Center can help young mothers to be with free health services and prenatal visits. They also offer parenting class and counseling for new moms and pregnant women. The Mya Center is located in the just on the outside of town and marked very discreetly, as some women may not want others to know they are pregnant. All of their services are free of charge and they do not turn anyone away. The Mya Center strives to get a patient an appointment within 24 hours after their initial phone call. The Mya Center maybe able to help Marissa’s mom with parenting classes as well.
