WIDA Focus and Teaching ELLs What Does The Research Tell Us Paper
ASSIGNMENT 1-
Step 1 Read the WIDA Bulletin: WIDA Focus on Differentiation Part I.
Step 2 Complete a Task Analysis. Task analysis, in simple terms, is a process that breaks down an activity into smaller parts. By using task analysis in the classroom, goals can be more easily reached and students are more likely to recall material at a later date. Sequences or steps are followed and practiced, making complex goals more attainable and hazy directions clearer. The reduction of skills needed to master a complex objective to sequential behavioral steps can help teachers meet the needs of all learners. Task analysis emphasizes the skills learners must master to complete the activity.
Step 3
1. Choose a task analysis from the list below:
Task Analysis Music
Task Analysis Physical Education
Task Analysis Social Skills
Task Analysis World Language
2. Use the Task Analysis Tool to complete the following steps:
For your chosen task analysis, examine the standard to identify an appropriate instructional task.
Identify the task demands on the student and the type of knowledge needed to complete the task successfully.
Identify disciplinary practices that are relevant to the task (interpreting data, arguments, evaluating, reasoning of abstract ideas, etc.).
Identify the ELD standard associated with the task analysis.
3. Reflect on how using task analysis can help your English Language Learners succeed in mastering the skills necessary to complete the task and gain proficiency in the particular standard.
Copy the Task Analysis Tool into a Word document to submit for this assignment.
Save a copy of the document to your personal portfolio for your future reference.
