Sourcing Analysis: Outline and Rubric
Purpose of this Assessment
The purpose of this Final Assessment is to demonstrate an understanding of the sourcing process and strategies for identifying and evaluating potential sources for procurement. You will
also demonstrate various sourcing strategies, and the factors that influence these strategies, including forecasting of buying data, development of an organization structure, and implementation of a business process design and e-solutions. You will also demonstrate an understanding of internal and external communication within supply chain management, the importance of supplier contract management and negotiation, corresponding performance evaluations, and potential tools for continuous improvement.

Step ONE: Preparation
In order to prepare for this assignment, it is important to carefully read this document in its entirety before starting the Final Assessment. Ensure to review each required item and submit the essay to align with the rubric. When reviewing each problem, the following questions should be considered:
1. What possible tasks are required?
2. What will you need to complete the essay and problems?
3. What research and outside sources will aid in the completion of this paper?

4. What resources from this competency might you reference to complete this Final Assessment successfully?
5. Think about possible plans of action for the steps you will take what strategies will you use to address each section of this paper?
Step TWO: Research and Planning
You have been hired as an advisor to a company in the Supply Chain Management division. In
this role, you are responsible for researching the current supply chain and evaluating its
efficiency and effectiveness.
Choose any company that you would like to research. Large, publicly-held companies normally
have the most readily available information. However, if you have access to a smaller
companys operation documentation, that will be fine to choose as well. It is important to ensure
there is enough information available to adequately evaluate your chosen companys sourcing
strategy.
Use the five competency objectives as guidelines to direct your research:
1. What are the potential sources and competitive offerings to determine the overall best
offer for a product/service?
2. What are options and abilities to communicate, both internally and externally, the buying
strategies based on forecasted data?
3. How can a company effectively establish and execute strategic sourcing plans, in
congruence with organizational objectives and sourcing strategies?
4. What are the companys options for business process design including e-solutions?
5. What are the considerations for contract management and supplier performance
measurement?
Step THREE: Develop Your Paper
Synthesize your research into a 6-8 page paper that addresses each of the five objectives of this
competency. The content should specifically relate to the business you selected. Make sure to
include relevant data, graphical displays, and other evidence and sources to support your claims
and analysis.
Your paper should include:
1. A brief introduction to the selected company including description of the company,
industry, organizational objective, customers, and suppliers.
2. A description of the companys sourcing strategy. This section should specifically address
if the company uses a sole, single, or multiple sourcing strategy, domestic or international
sourcing strategy, and cooperative buying or joint venture.
3. Identify and describe at least two suppliers that the company currently uses and one
potential supplier that the company may want to consider.
4. Comment on the companys organizational structure (provide graphics if available) and
specifically address the vertical and horizontal linkages.

5. Compare and contract e-commerce with e-business. Which one, or are both, used in your
company?
6. Lists the key evaluation factors that are instrumental in conducting an analysis of a
suppliers ability to perform and how these factors can be assessed during the
performance evaluation process.
a. Choose at least three factors mentioned and answer the questions presented in that
category. For instance, if you choose Deliver as one of the three factors, answer
if the supplier has sufficient facilities to deliver the required products or services
on time, what the inventory policy is, and if there are any backorders.
7. Provide feedback on the companys current sourcing strategy and the alignment with the
companys objectives. In other words, is the companys current sourcing strategy in
alignment with the companys objectives and does it provide the best overall sourcing
strategy for the products/service?
Step FOUR: Complete Checklist for Submission
Before you submit your work, check to see if you have met the criteria noted below. Did you:
? Ensure all 4 calculations are included
? Ensure all rubric areas have been addressed
? Correctly show the formula for each calculation
? Clearly show your work for each calculation
Step FIVE: Submit Your Work
?
Your completed files should be submitted through the Final Assessment page of your
competency.
?
Please note, for files smaller than 10MB (e.g., most Word documents), use the
corresponding +UPLOAD STUDENT FILE button to upload your Final Assessment
documents. For larger files of any type (e.g., voice over PowerPoint files, video

tutorial faculty can download your file.

Google Drive and Dropbox, offer this service. Please make sure that the URL you provide
can be accessed by anyone with the link. For further instructions on how to create public
links for uploaded files, consult the support pages for your chosen provider.
