Social Engineering Threats and Vulnerabilities
Module Description: A threat is any action, actor, or event that contributes to risk. Social Engineering vulnerability assessment is designed to help the company recognize their current state of readiness in order to address potential social engineering threats.Motives include financial gain, access to proprietary information, competitive advantage, revenge or personal vendetta, as well as ego and social acceptance. In order to understand the vulnerabilities and threats from social engineering and physical attacks, you will need to more thoroughly understand where the weak links are in the system, including the facility and people (employees, visitors, attackers).
Task:
Conduct a reconnaissance of the company to determine how easy it would be for a social engineer to gain access. (Choose a company to carry out the reconnaissance). Go as deeply as possible without breaking any laws or actually entering the company. If it is an open site, you could sit in the lobby and observe. Submit a complete report on what you did and all findings. Design a profile of the company that a social engineer might use to gain access to the company and data.
