Instructions:
Please compose a 4-5-page essay responding to the essay prompt below, drawing on course themes, lectures, films, and readings. Be sure to cite specific concepts, ideas, quotations, and examples in building your arguments. The best essays will reference key course materials while demonstrating original thinking in answering the questions. Your grade will be based on:

2. (40 points) – The depth of the analysis, including reference to specific citations and examples and attention to the connections between cases
3. (20 points) – The overall quality of the work, including evidence of effort, logic and reasoning, and conformity to the formatting guidelines
Essay Prompt:
Comparing the cases of Japanese-Brazilian return migrants, Syrian refugees, Muslim women in France, and indigenous minorities in Ecuador, compose an essay that examines: 1) how governments attempt to balance the interests of majority ethnic groups with the interests of ethnic minorities (in these cases, immigrants, refugees, and indigenous minorities); and 2) the conditions that can cause tensions between majority and minority groups and inhibit the latters social integration. Please include at least three of the four cases in your essay.
Formatting guidelines:
Please use 12 point, Times New Roman font, double spaced, with page numbers and one-inch margins all around. Please also include a title for your essay. You should be able to complete the essay in 4-5 pages. This assignment will be due on Friday, November 8th in discussion section, hard copy.
