Harley-Davidson has been around for 116 years and known for its roaring gas engines. However, Harley-Davidson’s sales have been declining for four straight years, which lead them to decide on some changes will need to be made in their product and marketing strategy. They are looking to reinvent themselves as more scooters, eco-bikes and ride-sharing services to adapt to the urban communities. Harley-Davidson has recently acquired StaCyc, which makes electric balance bikes for kids. This move clearly marks the intention of transformation of Harley-Davidson from bad boy company to good environmentalist. However, the author of “The Sharing Economy” believes Harley-Davidson should sell a higher quality eclectic bike or scooter direct to consumers instead of compete directly with ride-sharing services companies such as Bird, Lime, Uber and Lyft.
