ENG 520 Module Ten Journal Guidelines and Rubric

Overview: Journal activities in this course are private between you and the instructor. A course journal is generally made up of many individual assignments. Prompt: In this final journal assignment, you will provide a description of how you have progressed as a writer throughout this term. You will consider how your skills as a storyteller have developed and you will discuss your methods of approaching and creating a story from the conception of the idea through the completed planning phase, where you have a completed story plan for a work that you intend to write. Comment on the process of pulling together all of the elements you have created throughout the term. Describe the development of your story from your initial idea to the final draft of your story plan. How has your approach to storytelling changed and how have you been influenced to develop stories differently in the future? How will you change your approach to planning both short and long stories using what you have learned in this course? Lastly, list at least two challenges that writers face and explain how you plan to overcome these obstacles. These obstacles might include writer’s block, a day job, the closed-door publishing industry, or even family responsibilities. Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:

1. Skill Development: How have your skills improved as a writer? Describe how you have approached the creative writing process. How have you brought all the elements together?

2. Story Development: Describe the methods you have used to bring your story to fruition. How has this changed from when you began this course? How have you been further influenced?

3. Future Approach: Explain how you will approach your writing in the future. Has your approach changed? 4. Challenges and Obstacles: Discuss what you may face as challenges and obstacles in your writing process. What strategies will you use to overcome

these?

Guidelines for Submission: Submit assignment as a Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Your journal assignment must be 300–400 words and any sources should be cited in MLA format.
