The Importance of Cloud Computing
In recent years, cloud computing has gained popularity across the globe. This technology avails computing resources such as software, storage spaces, and many more through the internet. Important to note, it exists in different forms, for instance, Software as a Service(SaaS), where software programs are available without necessarily having to install them. Also, there is Platform as a service(PaaS), which enables developers to create applications without having to worry about the underlying infrastructure such as databases, networks, and servers. Lastly, it has Infrastructure as a service(IaaS) feature that aids the renting of Information technology infrastructure such as servers on the pay as you go basis (Katzan, 2010). Therefore, business owners, software developers, and IT teams should embrace this technology because it makes scaling easy, provides storage space at an affordable price, offers a development platform for software developers, and finally enables you to take advantage of applications without installing them on your device.
Cloud computing provides storage space at an affordable price. Some technology firms have invested large chunks of money in hardware infrastructure and now are capable of providing storage space at an affordable price, which is accessible via the internet, meaning that business owners can avoid the extra cost of buying and setting up storage servers by renting online storage space. It also helps to prevent maintenance hardware charges. Businesses should, therefore, take advantage of this technology and avoid incurring extra costs of buying storage servers.
Software as a Service feature enables people to use software applications without having to install them on their computing devices, a concept that is useful with applications that we do not use more often. Why install an app that you use once every six months! The good thing with this technology you can use that application program when you want to pay on as you go basis, thus proving beneficial to people with storage constraints.
Cloud computing makes scaling of applications easy. When, for instance, the users of your application increase, the cloud technology is bundled with tools that automatically scale up your app to cater to the increasing number of users, thus offering excellent user experience and thereby saving the business the hassle of having to schedule a maintenance plan to scale up the applications (Hofmann & Woods, 2010). Therefore, the firm should migrate to the cloud for easy scalability and the optimal performance of their applications programs.
Platform as a service is an essential feature for software developers and other IT experts. It enables software development easy by providing the underlying infrastructure such as database, networks, servers, and other necessary infrastructure that is essential in the software development lifecycle (Katzan, 2010). Thus software developers and IT teams must embrace this kind of technology to boost efficiency to meet project deadlines.
In brief, cloud computing is an innovative technology in today’s world. It enables people to rent Information technology infrastructure as storage servers and software applications. Besides, it provides a platform for software development. Moreover, it is bundled with technology tools that automatically scale up application programs to boost efficiency for optimal performance. For this reason, Businesses and Software developers and IT teams must do whatever it takes to embrace this technology so as minimize operational expenditure and boost efficiency (Morán, Rodero-Merino, & Vaquero, 2011).
