Assessment: Who Am I?
There’s one thing I aim to be good at in life: learning. The world has so much to offer I
want to be a sponge soaking it all in. In regard, to learning who I am as an individual in the
workplace this is a task that is ongoing. It is sometimes difficult to visualize because I have not
actually stepped into the field where I see a career forming. I am taking the time for self-
discovery, obtaining knowledge and wisdom and continuing my journey in growth. This course
has allowed for reflection in various areas. It has challenged me to ask myself what my true
motivators are, what direction my profession will take, what it will consist of, the structure
behind it and who I want to be and become once I get there.
Organizational behavior is not a concept I was too familiar with prior to taking this
course. Indeed, I have obtained so much more understanding on the way interaction occurs in a
work setting. There are so many factors that come into play such as one’s role, group dynamics,
and the intentional psychology behind it all. Moving forward, I want to continue to acquaint
myself with contrasting philosophies, so I can connect with what works for me, and I can seek
that out. So far, I have identified that an organic work environment with some level of structure
would be a good fit. To further this, this means a setting where I can be creative, but still be
challenged with attainable goals.
As part of increasing my understanding in organizational behavior, I had to find out what
really drives me. A lot of is emotion based, but in a business setting there is a rationality and
logic that must occur, so I can reach my emotional end goals. Discipline is crucial. Having the
self-discipline to achieve goals can be hard. This however, is something that will propel me
forward. Diversity is significant. Having a team from separate backgrounds who bring
contrasting views, will allow me to acquaint myself with asking necessary questions, developing
ideas and principles and increasing an awareness that will not only allow me to become a better
professional, but hopefully a better human as well.
Being active in a diversity setting requires people skills. At the beginning of the course I
stated that I wanted to improve in areas such as time management and communication. In my
past, communication was viewed as intimidating. Fast forward to now, different levels of
communication are still intimidating to me. However, I have been conscious of putting myself in
situations where this skill can continue to develop with the acknowledgement that strong
communication is powerful. As far as time management goes, I am proud of the steps forward I
have taken.
So, who I am… I am enthusiastic about the possible contributions that I can make if I can
continue to develop my abilities. Being passionate about what I do is pivotal. There is a seamless
integration that I would like to occur within all aspects of life. In conclusion, I would like to
thank Dr. Scott for making class fun, interactive and challenging us to step outside our comfort
zones. It is rare to come across all of this in a classroom setting and it is appreciated.
