Instructions
You will write a short essay assignment each week. The essay should follow MLA format. Use this link if you are unfamiliar with MLA format: MLA Formatting and Style Guide. The essay will answer the assigned question or statement provide in the lesson (300-500 words each week).
Essays must incorporate college-level writing, exhibit comprehension and application of economic concepts, and demonstrate critical thinking skills. Thus, these are not simple summaries of the readings, but require the student to respond in a thoughtful and concise way to the reading. The entire summary should be in paragraph format without bullet points, list items, or other extraneous items. Please use 1″ margins and standard font size (e.g., 11-12 pt., Times New Roman). Include your name, the date, and title in the document header.
Essays will have a deadline of Tuesday evening at the end of each module. The professor will make every effort to return summaries by the following week, marked according to the following system:
Above Average
Such summaries will thoughtfully engage the readings and demonstrate comprehension to show use of the sociological imagination in critical thinking and application of sociological concepts; few to no grammatical errors were evident (80-100%).
Satisfactory
Summaries that meet the requirements of the assignment but may show room for improvement in conceptual comprehension, critical thinking, relevant application of concepts, or written clarity; numerous grammatical errors were evident (70-79%).
Unacceptable
Summaries that do not follow the basic instructions or are not minimally adequate will be awarded minimal or zero credit; the grammatical structure of the summary failed to meet basic standards (0-69%).
