Based on your experiences, discuss the added value of cooperative training. How do we as HRM professionals objectively determine the “value” of cooperative training? Then, discuss the problems of cooperative training that should be taken into consideration by human resource professionals. Finally, make a recommendation as to how cooperative training can be assessed and used for succession planning.

Cooperative training has proven to add value to the organization currently I work in. In the Information Technology field, many of the positions our company hires requires the candidate has the education and hands-on prior to working for the company. Cooperative education provides the training needed to assist employees coming into the organization with experience and hands-on training.

Working in the Human Resource Management field it allows the recruiters to identify applicants who will be able to join the team with hands-on applications. The HRM has seen the skillsets needed to grow with candidates having Cooperative training. The Military uses programs to assist Veterans with cooperative education before departing from active service. In the Military, if you meet the following requirements you qualify for cooperative benefits. “You must use the VA education assistance program; you must be enrolled at an approved institution of higher learning; and finally you must be enrolled in an educational program that requires part-time study using this training” (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, n.d.).

The problem with cooperative is while OJT you are getting the hands-on however using the co-op training it is used by a grading system, which could be determined as unfair. The training also places the responsibility on the students instead of the teachers. The students must take the initiative to receive passing grades. The last fact is it “the students become dependent on others to help them achieve specific task” (Gaille, 2015).

Cooperative training can be used to create higher learning for students who will be recognized for their hard work and wiliness to learn. It will also be used to teach them how to work independently to get the job complete and accomplish their mission. This education will give the employee more confidence in their ability on their skill sets.
