This week we will review and discuss Ableism — of all the types of discrimination, this one is probably the least acknowledged and recognized by society. We will take a look at Ableism in the media — including Hollywood’s depiction of this group and the lack of people with disabilities in the news, both in reporting the news and the stories being reported.
The following videos and article will give you some perspective and background on how people with disabilities have been treated and portrayed by Hollywood, some insights into stereotypes often associated with them and stories of what people often experience in treatment from society. Hopefully, as take-aways from this lesson, you will have a greater understanding of people living with disabilities.
Watch and read all of the following in the order posted. Then answer the associated questions and respond to 2 other student’s comments. Due date: Sunday, May 3 by midnight
