In this writing assignment, you need to write a comprehensive story about a weather event or climate issue occurring anywhere around the world. You can choose a local weather event, event relating to seasonal or cyclical processes near and far, or distant catastrophic event such as a typhoon. Your writing must be in a form of an essay satisfying the standards of formal college writing. Refer to the syllabus for more details
In your writing, you must address the following questions.
1. What is the type and name/title of the selected weather event or climate issue?
2. Where does it happen?
3. When does it happen?
4. Why do you want to talk about it?
5. How does it happen?
6. How does it affect human beings and vice versa?
Additional important notes:
1. Please refer to the syllabus and rubric of this assignment to find out how to write this paper successfully.
2. ABSOLUTELY NO copy & paste texts will be accepted.
3. Your writing must be as clear and simple enough for a high-school student, not a weather and climate expert, to understand.
Reflection Papers
Students will be required to complete two Reflection Papers, which must be submitted electronically through Turn-It-In for plagiarism checking. All submissions that do not go through Turn-It-In (e.g., email) will not be accepted.
Content requirements: For each reflection paper, students must select a weather event or climate issue and write about it. In their writing, students will first describe what, where, when the event/issue occurs. Then, they will specify why they are interested in writing about the event/issue. Next, they will explain the processes creating the event/issue. Last but not least, they will discuss how such event/issue may affect human beings and vice versa. Students must demonstrate that their analysis is supported by concepts from the text and lecture materials. The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate an ability to recognize and interpret how weather and climate are manifested in various landscape settings, drawing from text and lecture material.
Format: It is the responsibility of the students to make sure that their papers are readable in Microsoft Word format. All other file formats will not be accepted. Each reflection paper should contain 400-600 words of text, which is equivalent to about 1.5 to 2 pages, double-spaced, with one-inch margins. Each reflection paper should reflect the grammar, spelling, and syntax standards of formal college writing. Paper should be typed with Times New Roman font, double-spaced, with one-inch margins and 12-point font. When you integrate text references you may refer to the text as “Aguado et al. 2015.” and include page numbers in parentheses.
