Select three sources pertaining to the topic that you wrote about for your visual analysis for your annotated bibliography and write a one-page citation for each source (three pages total not including a cover page).Acceptable sources include library books, articles from academic journals and reputable scholarly sources (JSTOR and EBSCO are wonderful for articles), and primary sources if they are available.
Your paper must be double-spaced with one-inch margins, use 12-point Times New Roman font, and your pages must be numbered.It should not use the first-person (i.e. I/we/us) or second person (i.e. you/your) voice, but rather should present your ideas in a third-person objective voice (the article/author).A hard copy of your paper must be presented in class on the due date noted on your syllabus.Major points will be deducted for late papers.
Your annotated bibliography will help you with the research for your historical analysis paper.An annotation is a brief summary of an article, book, website or other publication. It should give enough information to make a reader decide whether to read the complete work.It explains why the source is useful for researching a topic and its distinctive features.It describes the author’s main arguments and conclusions and analyzes what is being said. It examines the strengths and weaknesses of what is presented by describing the author’s conclusions.If the reader were exploring this topic would this material be useful and if so, why?
When writing an annotation the citation should come first, then the annotation follows. Include:
The purpose of the work and summary of its content
For what type of audience the work is written
Any special or unique features about the material
The strengths, weaknesses or biases in the material
Annotated bibliographies may be arranged alphabetically or chronologically.Citations should be formatted to the MLA or Chicago Style.If you use a paraphrased or direct quote, include the page number in parentheses or footnotes.You can use either citation style when writing your paper.
