Ethics- According to our reading it defines as two things. First, ethics refers to well-founded standards of right and wrong that prescribe what humans out to do, usually in terms of rights, obligations, benefits to society, fairness, or specific virtues. Ethics, for example, refers to those standards, that impose the reasonable obligations to refrain from rape, stealing, murder, assault, slander and fraud. Ethical standards also include those that enjoin virtues of honesty, compassion and loyalty. And ethical standards include standards relating to rights, such as the right to life, the right to freedom from injury, and the right to privacy. Secondly, ethics refers to the study and development of one’s ethical standards such as, feelings, laws and social norm can deviate from what is ethical (Velasques, M., Andre, C Shanks, T. S. J., & Meyer, Aug 2015).
Mandatory Ethics and Aspiration Ethics
After reading the Rules and Procedures of the Psychological Association it is my understanding that occasionally these rules and boundaries will be broken at time (Aspiration Ethics) however, Mandatory Ethics are put in place to help the individuals who work for these organization to stay within their boundaries to protect themselves as well as the client and the company. Within each profession and career there is a certain standard that one must uphold according to the Laws of the land as well as their professional ethical practices and in my opinion everyone has to give and account to God for the things that they do while we are here on this earth.
Principle Ethic and Virtue Ethics
I recently read an article concerning a Principal who faces charges for insurance fraud (Casey Sitterman) I attached her name in my opinion she is a hero, and this shows her good heart and character. However, society said she committed a crime and should face charges (sad). God and Society judges on two different levels, it is God who sees the heart (1 Samuel 16v7). During this situation her Virtue Ethics kicked in due to her love for her job and humanity, however, she still had a Principle Ethic Code that she had to uphold and live by according to her companies’ rules and the Law.
Laws of the land are made by man and is not always beneficial to humanity only to those that are making and writing them for their own personal gain or agenda, such as slavery pertaining to African American and The Jews during the time of the Nazi Germany Era.
Within my secular profession of course, I’m required to live according to the companies’ code of ethics. One of Gandhi quote “An eye for and eye will only make the whole world blind”. A Mosaic Law “An eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth (Leviticus 24v20). Christianity teaches if your enemy is hungry feed him; if he is thirsty give him something to drink, in doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head (Romans 12v20). Ethics, Principles and Morality.
