KEY IDEAS ASSIGNMENT DIRECTIONS
Key Ideas are single words, phrases, or short quotations which are significant, fundamental, or otherwise important in the
understanding a text and its importance to our main course themes and concepts. Knowing and applying the definition of a
key idea will give you a means of unlocking (like a key!) the meaning and impact of the entire text at hand.
In this recurring assignment, you will share what key ideas stuck out for you in the reading (or listening or watching) of assigned
texts. In short, you will identify and define 3 key ideas (again words, phrases or short quotations) that you believe are essential
to understanding the assigned text. Then you will identify and explain 2 ways these ideas connect to the larger frameworks and
ideas of this courseeither individually or as a group. These might be contributions or challenges they make to other ideas
that we have talked about, relationships to other texts or discussions, or examples of larger course themes. Finally, you
will have a chance to ask any lingering questions you might have about these ideas and how they apply to our course.
