A process recording is a written tool used in field education to examine the dynamics of social work interactions. Process recordings can help in developing and refining interviewing and intervention skills. By conceptualizing and organizing ongoing activities with social work clients, you can clarify the purpose of interviews and interventions, identify personal and professional strengths and weaknesses, and improve self-awareness. The process recording is a useful tool in exploring the interpersonal dynamics and values operating between you and the client system through an analysis of filtering the process used in recording a session.
To Prepare
Download the Process Recording III Template from this Week’s resources. Complete the template and include the template as part of your Assignment. 
Submit a process recording of a client interaction. The process recording should include the social work skill of Engagement, Assessment, and Intervention.
Provide a transcript of what happened during your field education experience, including a dialogue of interaction with a client.
Explain your interpretation of what occurred in the dialogue, including social work practice or theories.

Describe your thoughts or responses and/or any issues related to your interaction with a client during your field education experience.
Describe your interaction with your supervisor, and explain how it affects your practice.
Explain how you applied social work practice skills when performing the activities during your process recording.

The purpose of a process recording is to allow you, as a student, to reflect back on an interaction with a
client. In reviewing this interaction it is important to reflect on and identify the specific social work skills
that you utilized as well as the client’s responses to the specific skill set. It is important to write concisely
the thoughts, actions and feelings of the interaction. Use the template below to complete the process
recording. The process recording should be shared and discussed with your Field Supervisor as well.
