You have read and studied about various disabilities and conditions. Through laws, definitions, characteristics, and strategies, you now should realize that all teachers, to a certain extent, are
special education teachers.
Part 1:
Using these concepts, type at least one page (double-spaced) discussing the category of students you believe you will work with best in your own classroom. In your discussion, incorporate
their characteristics and teaching strategies and how they (characteristics and strategies) meld or merge with your current philosophy of teaching, personality, and any other reason(s) you would work well with them. Also include all or parts of the definition and how it contributes to working with this
population of students.
You may also want to discuss these students general learning styles due to their
characteristics. Other additions you may want to include are laws and their effects, the IEP or IFSP,
depending upon the age of the student, or any other pertinent information that explains how this
population of students/category is one which you believe you will work with best over the others.
Part 2:
Part 2 is Part 1s opposite. Type at least one page (double-spaced) discussing the category of
students that you believe will be the most difficult for you work with or teach. This may be due to the
fact that your philosophy of teaching does not match the possible required teaching requirements for
this population, you do not want to pursue the requirements of this population (e.g. sign language),
you do not want to work with this particular category of students because of their characteristics,
personality clash exists between you and the general characteristics of these students, you may have
had a negative experience with a person in this category of disability or with this condition, or any
other number of reasons this is your paper, you determine the reason.
As in Part 1, Discuss the characteristics, teaching strategies, and all or parts of the definition
you need to substantiate your discord with this category and how it does or does not blend with your
current teaching philosophy, personality, or other reasons. Also as in Part 1, you may want to include
general learning styles, laws, education plans, and other information that assists in your discussion of
your challenges with this population.
