This week, you will interview an individual at a local public health agency (e.g., city, state, or county department of health services or state chapter of the public health association) within the area of the incident you chose to research in Wk 1. The purpose of this interview is to gain additional information about the incident for your position paper.
To prepare for this interview:
Research the public health agency in the incident area. Study the structure of the agency to identify the best job roles within it for your interview. It is a good idea to have several candidates from which to choose in case individuals are not available.
Contact the person(s) to schedule the interview.
Write a draft of the interview questions ahead of time. Consider what information you need to strengthen your position paper. Your interview questions should help you explore the roles and responsibilities of public health agencies in environmental and occupational health incident response.
Interview the official from the public health agency in the incident area. An in-person or phone interview is encouraged. Take detailed notes during the interview or, with permission, record the interview. Review the document on research interviewing skills prior to conducting your interview.
