Part 1
In this assignment, you need to select any approach/policy or procedure that is applied in policing. Make sure that you will select policy/procedure that is trauma-informed or is lacking trauma informed approach
Once you identify the approach of your choice, you will need to conduct a brief literature review. The literature must rely on published current research and policy development in journals, agency reports, public policy and laws, and other resources that will lead to a thorough review of the scope of trauma informed services, strategies, policies, best practices
and training as it relates to policing. Once the literature is complete you will have adequate
evidence to discuss in great detail the following areas of inquiry:
a) Explain how the specific approach/policy or procedure addresses or lack to address
trauma. Be specific!
b) Does the approach/policy or procedure require trauma focused professional
development? If so, explain both formal and informal availability higher education
and/or training, discuss the course, curriculum and program content as it pertains to trauma.
e) While exploring the policy/approach and its focus on trauma informed care, identify
the interagency, interdisciplinary linkages/collaboration and partnerships are critical to
the success of policing individuals impacted by trauma. Again, make sure that you focus
on your specific policy/procedure
f) After a thorough review of the policy/procedure and its trauma informed strategies, describe the gaps whats missing, what can be improved, what should be the next steps to increase trauma-informed approach.
Part 2
After following the lecture for this week, do you feel that your moral judgment is fully developed? Does your environment cause you to have to make moral decisions, or does it protect you from having to do them? (Because we can ignore the homeless if they just stay somewhere else – right?) Do you feel you are psychologically predestined to a decision because of your Shadow Side? Do you think you may change with age? Explain and defend your answer using support from the text, attachments, videos and PowerPoints, and/or Internet resources.
Part 3
Please choose one of the following prompts and respond to it in no less than 5-6 pa. In your response, you must fully answer all aspects of the question and support your answer with reference to course materials (textbook, supplementary readings, videos, etc).
Discuss a real-life example in which a social conflict followed Coser’s theory. According to Coser’s (and Simmel’s) insights, what function(s) did this conflict fulfill? In other words, why was it good for society – or at least some people within society?
“Conflict theory” derives from the critical work of Karl Marx on economic inequality under capitalism; Coser’s analysis comes from structural-functionalism. How might social conflict be understood using symbolic interactionism? Come up with and discuss an application of this theory to the question of conflict.
