Discussion Question #1: Should structure shape strategy, or should strategy shape structure? Explain your answer based on what we discussed in class this semester, what you learned from watching the video, your past work experiences, and/or any other outside research that you want to share with the class. Be sure to provide some real-world examples in your discussion as well.
Discussion Question #2: It has often been said that “the real difference between success and failure is strategy alignment.” What is meant by “strategy alignment?” Discuss the types of failures that could occur when the strategy is not aligned with the firm’s functional area operations.
Discussion Question #3: What does strategy implementation involve? Is it “top-down” or “bottom-up”? Explain and provide justification for your answer.

Discussion Question #4: Both managers and leaders are necessary to ensure the successful implementation and operationalization of a firm’s strategy. What is the difference between a “manager” and a “leader”? Provide an example from your past experiences of someone who you feel is a good “leader” and what makes him/her different from someone who you feel is a good manager.
Discussion Question #5: In the videos you watched, you learned of Kotter’s 8-step process for change management. Why is creating a sense of urgency so important? How can leaders provide the sense of urgency? Can we effectuate change in an organization without a sense of urgency? Discuss your answers and bring in any real-world examples or other research to justify your position.
