The article, The biopsychosocial processes in autism spectrum disorder looks into the description of biopsychosocial process property of the Autism Spectrum Disorder (Silva, et al., 2013). The authors collect information and write down a review on Autism. In their review, the authors give a description of advances in the examination of biopsychosocial process as seen in people previously diagnosed with autism. The study is conducted by the authors in collaboration with published materials from other sources.
While utilizing the internet, the authors searched for literature about autism, executive functions, IMRI and theory of mind. The resources were derived from Medline and Science Direct online database. In specific, the authors draw information from PubMed and Scopus. The online sources were used a references to this article. Additionally, the articles searched were used during research in coming up with enough database. The authors examined all related materials detailing about autism. The literature was reviewed to find relevance in its contribution to autism topic, the period of publication, authors and objective. After examining the articles, the authors plotted and organized data in tabular form for presentation. The tables are clustered into three with extra information organized in form of a figure.
After an in-depth analysis, the authors make a conclusion that people living with autism have a relatively shorter life. Further, autism results in a disconnection with the social contemporary life resulting in a reduced quality of life. The authors also make the conclusion that none of the literature reviewed or published on autism would can satisfactorily describe the problems individuals face due to the condition. The authors use their results to draw conclusions by giving clues to how better interventions can be developed. Using neuroimaging can give a clear understanding of the specific part of brain affected by autism. The conclusions are made after carefully reviewing literature available.
The research would have been handled differently if the researchers carried out a survey in hospitals. The researchers would have collected data after examining patients and using information about individuals with autism as recorded by their physicians. Using quantitative method of data collection would have reinforced their results thus giving a more informed conclusion. The results prompt several research questions. It is imperative to consider how brain functioning and autism affects an individuals life. This question should be classified into social, economic and physical aspects of life. Another research question with a possibility of arising is how neuroimaging helps in bettering an understanding of autism.
