Tsun Yuen Wong Online Learning and Students’ Achievement
Q1: Topic: What is your research ?topic?? What do you intend to research? Review the Paper Part 1 instructions on choosing a topic to be sure your topic is appropriate.
I am interested to research about the relationship between online learning and students’ academic performance. Whether online learning will affect students’ academic performance and how it affects students’ academic performance.
Q2: Question: What research ?question? do you intend to answer? Be as specific and narrow as you can be at the present time. Avoid huge, generic, broad questions. The main question I study in the topic is what benefits and disadvantages online will learning bring to students’ academic performance and whether this depends on the students’ own consciousness? How will the disadvantages brought by online learning be improved in the future?
Q3: Significance: ?Why? is the answer important and ?to whom? is it important? Try to use the formula I will be studying _______, because I want to find out ________, in order to help my reader understand _______. See chapter 4 in the COR for an early preview. With the progress of science and technology, online learning has become an important means for students to learn. Most of the students need to study online. Even in some classes, online learning will replace teachers. I will be studying the influence of online learning on students’ academic performance, because I want to find out whether educators can adjust the direction of future teaching plans in order to maximize students’ progress.
Q4: Hypothesis/Claim: What do you believe is the answer to your research question at the present time? Dont worry if you are unsure at the moment. When you put your answer into a declarative statement that X is happening or X leads to Y, you have written the major claim of your paper.

My best guess at the answer now is that online learning does have an impact on students’ academic performance. It can bring both positive and negative effects. However, the specific impact mainly depends on students’ consciousness of learning.
Q5: Methods: How will you go about answering your research question? For most of us, this will be a review and synthesis of the best research currently available. What sort of evidence will you require to adequately answer your question? What would a reader find as convincing support for your claim? I would like to investigate the influence of online learning on students’ performance and whether it is related to students’ consciousness. My method is to investigate the progress of students’ online learning and the relationship between their serious learning level and their academic achievements, and then conclude a final summary based on proves I am going to collect.
Q6: Audience and Role as Writer: To which ?specific? type of reader will you address your research paper? How much will you assume they will know? What role will you assume as you write the research report? See Ch.1 of the COR for more information. I think my audience is mainly parents and professional educators. Because they really want students to learn more knowledge and care about their academic performance. Through my survey report, they can reestablish the future teaching plan to help students to maximize their academic performance. I will assume that my main audiences somewhat familiar about online learning whether they have or have not taken the online courses. My role in writing this paper is a college student who has experienced both advantages and disadvantages about online learning and seek to explore how students academic achievements can be affected.
