Why have companies moved away from mass marketing and toward target marketing?

Class, there are many ways to segment a market, but not all segmentations are effective. Name the five requirements for effective market segmentation, and then, in order to bring variety into our discussion, choose one of those five, explain it, and explain why it is important (be sure to explain in your own words and not copied content).
Lastly, what is an example of a product or service that would specifically need to meet the requirement you have described?  (There are examples in chapter 7 with the Requirements for Effective Segmentation that will give you some ideas, however, in your post, give an example of a product or service that is not described in your textbook.)
