One of the major developmental disorders for children of this day and age seems to be attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). A recent study in a British medical journal claimed that food additives and coloring were partly responsible for an escalation in hyperactivity. Is there merit to this? Is the diet of today’s children really creating issues like ADHD, or is something else behind the rapid rise in the number of children being diagnosed with it? What can you offer to back up your position?
Note: there are likely to be students in the class who have or have children afflicted with this disorder. Students who feel that the disorder is diagnosed far too often would do well to demonstrate a sound rationale for their position and do so in a caring and professional manner.
